Yesterday I went to The Bronx on the subway by myself. I wanted to go to the zoo as my parents had taken me when I was 3. It is a wonderful zoo. I looked it up and the review I saw has it as #5 in the country with San Diego as #1. For those of you in Houston, I wore a turtleneck and a jacket. :-)
I met some people the other day that were telling me of places to eat in Chelsea. While on the subway I was trying to remember where one of the restaurants was located. I decided to get off at 23rd & 7th. Well, once I got out from underground and could use my iPhone I found East of 8th Restaurant was on 23rd between 7th & 8th. Woohoo!!!! I started down 23rd to the restaurant when I saw a line of people in a doughnut shop. I did what any normal person would do, I got in line. I asked the woman ahead of me what was so special about these doughnuts, she said she was from Chicago and her husband had sent her. So, I looked it up on my phone(I have never used my iPhone as much as I have in NYC) and this place is known for their Tres Leche, Creme Brûlée, and carrot cake. I bought a blackberry filled with a peanut butter glaze and a coconut cream. Like the chocolate cookie, I wanted to ask if I got a dozen for that $6.00. I ate part of each, but didn't think they were all that great. I'll take Shipley's. Houston has to have 1 or 2 things I think are better than NYC. I found the restaurant and got another wonderful salad - arugula, endive, walnuts, apples, and carrots with a lemon vinaigrette. It came with 2 pieces of French bread with blue cheese spread on them. Yummy. I have never seen such creative salads in Houston.
